WITNESSES AT THE CENTRE of a prostitution ring case in the North have told detectives they live in fear of the criminal gang who allegedly trafficked them for sexual exploitation.
The gang allegedly ran brothels in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow and Belfast.
The Irish Examiner reports that prostitutes and transsexuals were brought to Belfast by the gang.
The crime gang behind the brothels allegedly spent over £50,000 promoting their prostitutes, according to the Belfast Telegraph, and placing advertisements in a national newspaper.
Four people – two men and two women – have been charged with offences relating to human trafficking and prostitution after police officers found 15 potential victims of trafficking during raids on multiple premises around Belfast.
All four were remanded in custody after a court appearance this morning. The presiding judge said:
The nature of the police investigation discloses that they are investigating what is potentially a matter of great, great seriousness.
